Today has been an exciting day! Our babies (LB & Daisy) had their 6 month check up today and we started with their first baby food tonight! I am so excited…but we will get to that in a little bit.
First we must start with breakfast. I woke up at 7 this morning with full intentions of going to the gym and leaving straight to the babies’ doctor visit. Well, after waking up I began thinking of everything I needed to do before I had to leave at 10:00 am (including feeding two babies, showering, dressing both babies, baking a cake for church, packing diaper bag and bottles for a day out). After thinking about all of this I decided there was no way I could do all that plus workout in 3 hours. Boy was I right, I got all that done and was only ten minutes late.
My breakfast was my normal, well almost normal, protein shake in a bowl. We were out of strawberries so I went for a peanut butter banana smoothie and topped it with a “clean” chocolate cupcake that I made yesterday. (I will post the recipe tomorrow)
I also topped it with my new granola which I am liking more and more
After breakfast I got everyone ready and out the door and we made it to the doctor on time. I totally left the camera in the car
so no pics from the doctors office (but I do have food pictures coming up). Our babies have grown so much in the last six months! Daisy weighs 13 pounds 6 ounces and is 26 inches long and LB weighs 13 pounds 7 ounces and is 27 inches long. They did very well with their shots, which makes me feel a lot better.
After lunch we visited Which Which, an awesome little sandwich place that I first found from Emily Eats Clean
I enjoyed a black bean burger sandwich with lots of yummy fixings.
I also had some Garden Salsa Sun Chips
After lunch I was super full and told Lew to remind me next time to skip the chips.
After lunch we went to Sam’s Club (our favorite store in which we spend WAY to much money) to buy some food for church and a couple things for the house. (Baby Wipes…we go through A LOT of baby wipes!)
After Sam’s we came home for nap time and clean up the house time and then it was time for LB and Daisy to eat food for the first time! After a lot of research and talking with the Lactation Consultant from our pediatricians office we decided to wait a full six months before introducing any solids and that the first food we feed our babies would be avocado. There is a wonderful site Wholesome Baby Food that I use as a reference.
He ate all of his! I was so excited! I am hoping he will sleep later than 6:00 in the morning with the extra calories.
Daisy only ate a couple bites…she was not impressed! Maybe she was just full from her bottle. We will try again tomorrow
I will definitely keep everyone updated on our baby food adventures. I hope to incorporate their diet into the blog just as much as mine. I want everyone to know there is more to baby food than rice cereal and jars with weird combinations of meats and veggies.
Dinner tonight was at church. I believe sloppy joes were on the menu so I stuck with some fresh fruits and veggies.
My plate included broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and tomatoes and watermelon, cantaloupe and strawberries for dessert. (I also had a bite of the cake I made, but it didn’t turn out very well)
When I came home I needed something so I decided to try one of my clean chocolate cupcakes. I had to modify the recipe so they didn’t turn out to great and I wasn’t sure of them until I topped one with Naturally More Peanut Butter….It was AMAZING! Definitely an awesome combination of my two favorite things.
Have a good night!
Question of the Day: If you have children what did you feed them for their first food?
