Cafe Mocha

I love coffee and I love chocolate! Ever since I decided to give up flavored coffee creamers (such as vanilla coffee mate, my favorite) I have been trying different ways to flavor my coffee.

I am not a big fan of flavored coffee blends because I feel they are often to strong for my liking. Yesterday I experimented with a couple things but none of them came out just right.

First try: I put a few chocolate chips in my usual cup. FAIL! The chocolate settled in the bottom and I couldn’t even taste it.

Second try: I added a drop of raspberry extract to my coffee. This was pretty good. (It would have been better if I added sweetner but I was out of Truvia)

Third try: SUCCESS! Cafe Mocha

  1. I melted about 6 dark chocolate chips in a splash of half and half for 30 seconds in the microwave. (Put microwave on 70% power so you don’t burn the chocolate)
  2. Stir chocolate and half and half together until smooth
  3. Stir chocolate mixture into brewed coffee.
  4. Add desired amount of half and half or milk
  5. Add packet of Truvia. (Today I used organic raw sugar b/c I am still out of Truvia)
  6. Yum!

I loved this so much I think I am going to make a second cup while I whip up Pumpkin Scones for a bake sale tomorrow at the VA hospital!

Wish me luck :)

I agree with you that flavored coffees are too strong. We mix flavored coffee with a non-flavored coffee (about 70-30). Cinnamon is my favorite! Gives just enough flavor without overpowering. But I must say, the chocoate sounds amazing!!!

Hi, I just recently found your blog and it’s inspiring:) Why don’t you just use Coffee Mate Sugar free Vanilla? Are you using Truvia only? Thanks, keep up the good work!

    1. Renee,
First of all, thank you so much for reading my blog! Since I began my commitment to eating cleaner (I am by no means claiming to be a total “clean” eater) I have been trying to eat unprocessed foods as much as possible. I read ingredient labels of everything I buy and have basically stopped buying food that contain ingredients that I have no idea what it is. That is pretty much my food philosophy “buy things that I can pronounce the ingredient list”. The ingredients in coffee mate regular creamer are as follows “WATER, CORN SYRUP SOLIDS, PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED SOYBEAN AND/OR COTTONSEED OIL, SODIUM CASEINATE (A MILK DERIVATIVE), DIPOTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, POLYSORBATE 60, SODIUM STEAROYL LACTYLATE, ARTIFICAL FLAVOR, CARRAGEENAN, BETA-CAROTENE COLOR.” This ingredient list just doesn’t cut it for me anymore. So I use organic half and half. I might be spending more money, consuming more calories and fat but since I have made these changes in my diet I have lost 8 pounds and not changed anything about my workout routine. I have also tried to cut out all unnatural sweetners and am trying to just use truvia or organic sugar. I hope this answers your question. :)
