I am really hoping that one day soon I will return to my regular blogging schedule. People ask me all the time how I find time to blog while taking care of the twins. My answer is normally “well, I just do it”. I honestly love to blog! I never considered myself a writer but I love writing for my blog. It feels so freeing. I don’t feel judged, I don’t feel like I am trying to fit any guidelines and I don’t feel like I am trying to meet deadlines. That being said I do not like when I can’t find the time to blog. Basically because this means my life it utter craziness at those times I can’t find time to blog. So, as a result of so much craziness I am going to bless you with our experience dining at Bearfoot Bistro in Whistler for our anniversary last Wednesday.
As a result of my day I am blogging at 9:00 pm with a cup of coffee and a chocolate covered pretzel at hand ![]()
Today was actually not too crazy but my babies are much more mobile and completely wore me out! I normally blog during their nap time but today I napped! It was an awesome nap! Now enough about my day today…on to the best food I have ever eaten!
Bearfoot Bistro Whistler, Canada
Last Wednesday (December 15) was mine and Lew’s 3rd anniversary. To celebrated we asked around for dinner recommendations and decided on the Bearfoot Bistro. To be honest this was the most expensive food I have ever eaten. However, it was the BEST food I have ever eaten! It was also one of the most fun dining experiences I have ever had. The restaurant is known for a few things and we were able to take a tour and see all that they are famous for. After sitting at our table we took a tour of their wine cellar. I believe that this is the 3rd largest wine cellar in Canada.
There is a wine bottle worth $20,000 in this cellar! Crazy!
They also find this a good place to store their prosciutto.
The owner of the restaurant holds the Guinness World Record for sabering 21 champagne bottles in one minute.
Another thing Bearfoot Bistro is known for is their Ice Bar. Yes, this is exactly what it sounds like, a bar made of ice. The room was previously a cigar bar but after a change in Canadian laws they were no longer able to have the cigar bar and changed the room to an Ice bar used to store and taste Vodka’s from all over the world.
They were so very kind to give us a tour of the Ice bar and Lew and I learned so much about all the work that went into putting their idea to live.
Before entering the Ice Room we had to get suited up. You just can’t go into a –5* F room without a coat.
And a stylin hat…
The Ice Room did not make very pretty pictures but it was definitely interesting. That is about all I can say. The whole time we were in the Ice Room I was just in awe of how they made the room. I mean it’s an Ice Room and that is about all I can say about that.
Now both of the tours were very cool and interesting but all we really cared about was the food. And let me tell you the food and experience was worth every dime!
Lew and I ordered the Chef’s special Five Course Meal. There was no menu for this, every course was a surprise! It was so fun. I told the waitress I did not want any red meat and Lew requested no onions. They prepared menus for us to bring home so I could bless you with every detail of our five courses (which was actually six courses plus a palate cleanser).
We started off with a bread basket of assorted bread. I ate three pieces of the olive bread before I realized the reason I did not like it was because it was olive bread. I just could not figure out what that weird vinegar taste was!
However, I loved the flat bread!
Cured Marlin
black maldon salt, citrus & ginger
Seaweed & Tea Crusted Albacore Tuna
coconut cream, thai basil, citrus
Qualicum Scallop
mushroom ragout & celeriac
Yukon Arctic Char
atlantic lobster bisque, roasted salsify, fresh apple
Beef Tenderloin (Lew’s entrée)
braised shank tortellini, cranberry gastrique
Sunshine Coast Sturgeon (My entrée)
tiroler bacon, winter squash, parsley root
Pecan & Praline Brownie
I could go into every course and tell you how much I enjoyed each of them but the truth is I loved each one. They were all so very different there is just no way I could pick a favorite. We rarely eat at fine dining restaurants and when they brought out the dishes and explained them I had no idea what I was about to eat. I was so surprised that when I started eating I could pick out the different flavors and textures and I knew exactly what I was eating. This was definitely the most amazing food I have ever eaten.
All I can say is AMAZING! If you are ever in Whistler and want to splurge this is definitely the place to go!
Now I am going to wake my sleeping hubby and head to bed! Goodnight
