Conquered

Lew here..

Over the last two days I have been really proud of myself and a little disappointed in myself.  Lets start with yesterday.  Yesterday I had a really good workout in my Day 3 of the Fit Blogger Challenge.  We had a really great upper body workout, which included 3 series of different arm workouts with weights followed by Mtn. Climbers, Jumping Jacks, and Butt Kicks in between each of these sets.  What a workout!!!  After working out I had to go to Johnson City to the Veterans Administration Hospital to do some work related business.  So while we were in Johnson City we ate at Cheddars. This place has some really amazing food and I usually overindulge but instead I made some very smart choices, I had grilled catfish instead of fried.  For my side I chose broccoli and green beans instead of mashed potatoes and broccoli casserole.  Both of these choices were very good and I was full when I left.  Now, on to a disappointment.  We had an Epiphany party and I know Ashlee showed you her plate, she never got a picture of mine because I did way to much grazing.  One of my goals was to overcome church functions.  I always have trouble just going through the line and getting healthy choices and then staying away.  Last night I knew I would not be as strict as normal but it went bad from the beginning when I saw Puppy Chow, which is chex mix mixed with peanut butter and chocolate covered with powdered sugar, one of my all time favorite desserts.  Hand full after hand full and I was conquered for the night.  I ate better than I did last year and didn’t eat nearly as much as I could but I let myself down.

You might be asking the question what are you going to do?   I am going to keep going, keep fighting, keeping my eye on the goal of losing 58LBS.  This morning I woke up wasn’t hungry but knew I needed some workout fuel so I had a piece of wheat toast with peanut butter.  Our workout today was a cardio workout that included 10 different exercises.  I am worn out! 4 days of working out has worn my legs out, but tomorrow will be another day and I will survive.

I will let Ashlee tell you all about our smart choices for lunch and dinner.

Question:  What do you do the day after you let your self down?

Hello, Ashlee here, I am about to run out for a fun girls night. AKA trip to the grocery store with my friend Lindsay. What can I say, we are wild and crazy!

For lunch today Lew and I were invited to have dinner with Carolyn, one of the sweetest ladies I know. For starters we had homemade hummus and pita chips.

She made homemade chicken noodle soup. It was awesome!

After reading so many food blogs I have learned the two things to always have on hand are carrots and sweet potatoes. (Baked and stored in the fridge for future use)

Tonight I used both. Carrots in the salad…

Sauteed chicken with sweet potato chunks.

  • 2 chicken breasts cut in small pieces.
  • 2 baked sweet potatoes cut into small pieces

In my favorite skillet I cooked the chicken breasts until almost done (I added pepper and chicken seasoning)

When the chicken was almost finished I added the sweet potatoes and cooked until potatoes were hot and chicken was fully cooked.

I am not sure if Lew liked this are not but he says he did. I thought it was great!

Happy Grey’s Anatomy watching!

Temptation!

Some times you are just plain tempted. Last night we attended an Epiphany party at one of our churches. I knew this party was going to full of temptations but really what church dinner isn’t? In an effort to make sure there was something nutritious available Lew and I picked up a veggie tray at Sam’s since we were out all day. I knew there was not much of a chance that I would only eat veggies but it was something to fill up my plate a little instead of too many things I didn’t necessarily need.

I also knew that there was a Christmas tree cake that would feed 200 people. I rarely say no to cake so I used last night as my sweet of the week opportunity. So, here are a few tips I used last night when facing the temptation of lots of party food.

First of all I was hoping to help curb my sweet tooth with a cup of coffee before dinner started. I enjoyed a cup of regular coffee with cream and no sweetner while we fed the babies a banana.

I love some Dunkin Donuts coffee Smile

So, here was my strategy last night.

  • Don’t eat one of everything.
  • Only pick things I know I really like.
  • Eat veggies
  • Don’t go back for seconds.

I think this what my plate consisted of…

  • half of a poppy seed chicken sandwich
  • 2 grilled chicken wings
  • 1 tamale
  • 2 corn tortillas with a little cheese dip
  • spinach dip and multigrain chips
  • 1 jalapeno popper
  • Veggies with a little veggie dip
  • For dessert Lew and I split some cake and a little piece of pie. Along with a small chocolate truffle.

I was a little disappointed that I didn’t say no to the cake after I finished eating it. However, it was good and there is always next week to have something different. I am really thinking I will enjoy the all the dark chocolate in my pantry from my Christmas stocking more than anything. That or some frozen yogurt…

On to today…

Breakfast

Lew wasn’t hungry so he just had a piece of whole wheat toast with natural peanut butter.

I had a serving of oatmeal topped with natural peanut butter and a drizzle of honey.

I’ll be back later with yummy lunch details.

I know some people are disappointed with the new seasons of Grey’s Anatomy but I LOVE them and I am very excited about tonight’s new episode! If you are a Grey’s fan how do you feel about this season? Are you excited about tonight’s episode?
